Wednesday started as a completely normal day. I got up earlier than usual because I had a dentist appointment and that all went well. We went through our day as normal, though I felt a little more tired than usual, and Brent had his usual work afternoon. He and the girls played outside before supper after he got back home from work. We had supper and I moved a load of laundry while the big girls helped wipe the table and sweep after supper. They even told me "Mommy, go sit down, we will finish this."
So just after this I began to be concerned that possibly my water had broken. Brent and I were completely shocked. He was finishing up things from his workday on the computer and I was getting ready to put the girls in bed and suddenly, at 29 weeks and 6 days, I am calling my doctor because there is even the possibility that my water has broken!! I called the after hours line for my doctor and of course, they said you need to come to the hospital so we can check you. So we called Nana, Brent's mom, who thankfully lives only about 10 minutes away and she arrived fast in just a few minutes! Allie was already asleep so I rubbed her sweet little head in her crib and gave all the big girls hugs and we raced out the door with about 2 nights of clothes for the hour long drive to the hospital.
It was a pretty tense drive because I was having some light contractions as well. We arrived between 11:30 and midnight and they got me checked in. They confirmed that my water had indeed broken. We are still mystified by this. I have zero risk factors listed for pre-term labor and none of our girls were even born before 38 weeks. But here we were, either way.
Because I was still having some contractions and needing certain medicines they transferred me over to labor and delivery for the overnight. So all the IVs and medicines began and we began the overnight wait.
